The Steamboat Skating Club team training is divided into different color groups. Skaters are place in each group based on their skill level. Below is the pipeline of how the color groups progress based on the United States Figure Skating Association level system.
Skater must be 4 years old or older.
All skaters new to Intro to Figure Skating need to have passed the City of Steamboat Springs Learn to Skate Program or an equivalent Learn to Skate Basic 3 Program prior to enrolling. Those who enroll without passing a Basic 3 program will be re-directed to the Steamboat Springs Learn to Skate Program.
Our 2023-2024 fall season runs from August 27th through the rink closure in May. The exact end date is to be determined once the rink and city decide on the rink closure dates.
All off-ice and on-ice training is held at Howelsen Ice Complex.
The Steamboat Skating Club has ice time on Thursday afternoons from 4-5pm, on Sunday afternoons from 3-5:30 and on biweekly Wednesday mornings from 6:30-7:30am.
Each color group has their own on and off ice training schedules.
Throughout the 2023-2024 fall season there are a few events that skaters are encouraged to participate in.
Team building parties: These parties are normally every 3 months.
Fundraisers: We have two fundraisers in the fall, Fright Night on Ice and Skate with the Grinch. Fright Night on Ice will include an exhibition this year.
All skaters need to wear tight fitting clothing. It is recommended that all skaters wear a jacket and gloves. Hair MUST be pulled back securely away from the face.
No skaters will be allowed on the ice in jeans or shorts.
Every skater in Blue group and above will be charged a $200 work deposit (split between two $100 payments in October and November). If all 10 volunteer hours are completed by the end of the season this will be rolled over to the following season (or returned to the family if the skater doesn't return for the following season).
All skaters are required to have an active Learn to Skate or USFSA membership. Intro skaters get their Learn to Skate membership included in their monthly costs. All other skaters will be charged a $70 USFSA membership fee upon registration after July 1st each year.
First year USFSA memberships are discounted at $40.
